Marketing, Production, and Photography/Videography.

Marketing Intern

Time Frame: Summer/Fall 2016 (until May 1).
Time Commitment: 3-6 hours a week
Stipend provided

Position Summary
Collaborate with team to create, promote, and implement series of concerts featuring artists from Luther College and Decorah. Now entering its fifth season, Water Street Music Series serves as a connector between the artistic communities of Luther College and Decorah. As marketing intern, you will be engaged in all aspects of running a small arts organization, with special emphasis on growing marketing skills. As an intern, you will be led in an environment where experimenting with new skills/ideas and learning from scratch are encouraged. Your voice will be an equal contributor to a collaborative team. 

What You Would Do

  • Work with team on developing innovative marketing strategies to attract new audiences
  • Contribute to design and distribution of print marketing materials
  • Generate written content for e-blast, social media, and press releases
  • Track and help implement fundraising campaigns that engage new and returning business sponsors and individual donors
  • Attend each concert, serving as a face of the organization and helping successfully execute production elements
  • Network with other arts leaders in Decorah, gaining important collaborators and mentors

Production Intern

Time Frame: Fall/Spring 2016/17
Time Commitment: 3-6 hours a week
Stipend provided

Position Summary
Collaborate with team to create and implement series of concerts featuring artists from Luther College and Decorah. Now entering its fifth season, Water Street Music Series serves as a connector between the artistic communities of Luther College and Decorah. As production intern, you will be engaged in all aspects of running a small arts organization, with special emphasis on managing all variables associated with producing events. This includes communicating with artists to confirm technical needs, managing equipment rental, and setting up and running sound at each concert. As an intern, you will be led in an environment where experimenting with new skills/ideas and learning from scratch are encouraged. Your voice will be an equal contributor to a collaborative team. 

What You Would Do

  • Work with team in determining technical requirements for each concert
  • Manage technical equipment, including picking up and dropping off of any rented equipment
  • Serve as primary on-the-ground contact for artists
  • Be the go-to person for all things technical
  • Assist in setting up both front and back of house production requirements, including staging and seating for all concerts
  • Network with other arts leaders in Decorah, gaining important collaborators and mentors

Who You Are

You nerd out about sentences that combine words like “art,” “community,” and “storytelling.”
You have a background in technical elements of sound/light production, can run a sound board and critically listen during a concert to adjust elements as necessary.

Photography/Videography Intern

Time Frame: Fall/Spring 2016/17 (until May 1)
Time Commitment: 8-10 hours a month, 
Stipend provided

Position Summary
You capture every moment of concerts featuring artists from Luther College and Decorah. Now entering its fifth season, Water Street Music Series serves as a connector between the artistic communities of Luther College and Decorah. As photography/videography intern, you will be engaged in all aspects of running a small arts organization, with special emphasis on capturing footage of each concert. As an intern, you will be led in an environment where experimenting with new skills/ideas and learning from scratch are encouraged. Your voice will be an equal contributor to a collaborative team. 

What You Would Do

  • Attend every performance, capturing photography/videography
  • Edit and provide footage to wider team for use in marketing and production materials

Who You Are

You’re capable of planning ahead with detail and accuracy. 
You trust your instincts and can take action in the moment. 
You own your own equipment, and are eager to put it to use building your portfolio.
